You need to answer in the affirmative, because God’s Word to us is that this is essential to walking in His ways, following Christ. The prophet Habakkuk was told in a time of correction, he says, to write the vision, making it clear. Proverbs tells us that people “cast off restraint” without redemptive revelation.
I believe, if you don’t have a vision, then you really don’t have a future. With all that God has invested in you, it seems rather foolish to have no particular scenario in mind for your life – to be headed nowhere in particular. Your life is a gift from God. What you do with it is your gift back to Him.
My book, The Power of Vision: Charting Your Spiritual Course, contains the distillation of years of study and observation. It is purposely kept as brief as possible, intended to deliver concepts that translate into action. Some people read this work in one sitting. I believe this book will incite you, stir you up, challenge and encourage you.
You can do this. You do it already. To apply it to your life, you need to realize first that you are not an accident. You were carefully, thoughtfully, and lovingly created just as you are for specific purposes. God hardwired you for what you were created to do. God’s Word tells us that He planned every day of your life – with appointments!
Vision is simply getting ahold of what you were created for. When you plan a day off, a family vacation, or a business trip, you are more intentional with those arrangements than the rest of your life. The more that you get aligned with God’s plan for your life, the greater the blessing will be.
Think of your life as a ship on the ocean. It has to have a destination and a pilot to get there. The book of James talks about great ships being directed by a small rudder, a metaphor for the tongue. The words that we speak are directing our life. You are the governor of this vessel, and this direction is coming from you. To get to the destination of your destiny, your heart must be free of offense.
